Winters Racing an AHDRA drag bike race team based out of Richmond, IL. The drag bike is a modified 1998 Buell Lightening S1 competing in the 11.50 Screamin' Eagle Performance class of the AHDRA.

Kevin’s consistent participation and winnings will have him nominated for Sportsman’s Class Rookie of the Year award for the AHDRA drivers banquet held after the final event in Las Vegas in November. Kevin Winters #SEP 115 uses AMSOIL products in his 1998 Buell S1 Lightening. AMSOIL MCV 20W50 100% Syn. Motorcycle oil (engine & gear box) and EaOM Motorcycle oil filter.

Kevin started drag racing his street legal 1998 Buell Lightening S1 at the Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI roughly 3 years ago. After learning the art of indexed bracket racing, Kevin invested heavily to modify his bike to a more competitive, non street legal race bike. After winning consistently at the local drag track, he needed a bigger challenge at a national level and eventually chose the AHDRA which is a national sanctioned All Harley Drag Racing Association circuit with 13 national events held at the same tracks the NHRA competes at.

Kevin first became connected to AMSOIL in 2006 by Jason Keranen of AZ-Syntheticlubes LLC, Casa Grande, AZ.  Jason was crucial in getting Kevin lined up with the proper AMSOIL products for this drag bike to produce maximum performance with consistent reliabilty. Kevin has since become an AMSOIL dealer and continues to rely on AMSOIL to protect everything he needs for racing including his drag bike, motor home and pit bikes used at all races. Paul Cavanaugh rides a Hayabusa and uses AMSOIL MCF 10W40 motorcycle oil in his drag bike for the best protection and performance available.

Paul currently is in third place in the PROSTAR Street ET Series. Only 5 points are separating him from the points leader. There are 2 races left in the season, Atco, NJ in September and Gainesville, FL in November. The last PROSTAR race in Indianapolis, IN at O'Reilly Race Park Paul went to the semi-finals out of a field of 64 bikes he missed going to the finals by .03 of a second.

In the NHRA Division 2 series he is in 3rd place. With one race left on September 22nd Pauls need to win this one to have a shot at 1st and take the championship.

This season has been tough since Paul decided to install a turbo on his Hayabusa in the middle of both points series. In his last three races he made it to the semi-finals. This is due to the fact that he is finally starting to get a handle on the extra 120hp added to the motorcycle.

Why do I use AMSOIL in my Hayabusa and not another brand?

This is a question I am asked frequently. I used to use Mobil 1 when I first started racing. Mainly because I did not know any better and I thought it was good synthetic oil.  That was up until I read the product literature on AMSOIL products.

What I read made me realize there is a significant difference between oil made for cars and oil made for motorcycles. I will not get into the details here because there are plenty of them on the AMSOIL website, but the main one I will get into is the wet clutches for a motorcycle.

The reason that car oil is manufactured differently than motorcycle oil is because a motorcycle uses a wet clutch.

The first year I ran my bike in 2005 I was using Mobil 1. At the end of that season I replaced the clutch discs and plates. I figured this was due to drag racing and they would wear faster than if I were riding the bike in a normal fashion. (There is nothing normal about dumping the clutch on a Hayabusa at 6,000 rpm.)

I started using AMSOIL after AMSOIL Direct Jobber Jason Keranen offered me a sponsorship in early 2006. Since then I have also installed a Velocity Racing Turbo from Barry Henson on the Hayabusa. The motorcycle has gone through 2 racing seasons with the same set of clutch discs and plates, this means they have well over 200 passes on them.

The other thing I have noticed is that the bike seems to run cooler. Where I have noticed this is in the fact that I removed the oil cooler in order to install the turbo system. The motorcycle runs just about the same temperature as it did when I had the cooler in it. Keep in mind this year I have raced this bike in temperatures that have broke 100 degrees in GA, IN, TN and OH.

My bike is a 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa, the engine size is 1300cc. With the Velocity Racing turbo I am producing 258HP at 10 lbs boost. The bike is lowered 3" and stretched 6". It has an air shifter with onboard compressor. The fuel map is handled by a USB Power Commander III. The fuel map for the turbo was custom programmed by Brian Livengood at Livengood Motorsports in Loganville, GA and myself. Paint on the bike was done by James McDaniels of McDaniels Collision in Monroe, GA.

Because of these reasons I use AMSOIL MCF 10W40 Motorcycle oil in my Hayabusa. I recommend everyone who owns a Hayabusa or any other motorcycle does the same.

Sincerely,

Paul Cavanaugh
